One of the feature that a PCB design software should have is to allow user to see the PCB layout and schematic side by side. While there are many PCB design software, not all of them have such feature. While designing PCB layout, you have to often refer to the schematic to see where the components should be placed. There are PCB software where you cannot see both of them simultaneously and therefore you have to click back and forth between the schematic diagram and the PCB layout. This becomes troublesome and irritating. It slows down your design work and often can lead to poor design, and also to errors. Hence being able to see what’s on the PCB layout and schematic is very helpful.
One of the PCB design software that allows you to see both is Proteus Professional circuit simulation and PCB design software. Below is shown screenshot of an example where you can see both schematic and PCB layout in Proteus.
By looking at the schematic we can easily recognize components which should be placed where. Components that should be placed near the pins of ICs or components which should be placed together can be easily recognized.
Furthermore, you can individually zoom in and out into the schematic and the PCB editor. This allows you work on parts of the layout where you are currently working on. If you get lost, if you don’t know which part in schematic is on the PCB layout or vice versa, you can right click on the component and select view in the PCB layout or vice versa.
These are really helpful design tools to any electronics designer or PCB designers.
